the headache analogy

the pain my daughter feels is real, but we don’t know what is causing it.

we were given an analogy when she was in hospital – told to think of the pain as a headache. that’s a good analogy. all of us experience pain from time to time that we cannot explain or just occurs. headaches, for example. my daughter understood that.

the trouble is, she is sore for much of the day, with spasms of pain – unlike any headache she has experienced.

so am trying to find another way to explain it – that her body is firing off pain signals when it shouldn’t. that the pain gates between her tum and her brain have been left open…

headaches, rogue signals, pain gates…whichever way i put it, it doesn’t stop her from wanting to know why…
